I have just come home from a 4 week-long road trip in Norway. I must say – it is great to be a tourist in my native country! I have visited a lot of small charming villages, historical sites, beautiful beaches, fascinating mountains..so many places with breathtaking scenery!
I have also travelled 10 of the Norwegian Scenic Routes – as far North as Senja which is not far from the town Tromsø. I have always wanted to visit Lofoten, and now I have travelled to both Lofoten, Vesterålen and Senja in Nordland county. It was a fantastic experience.
During the autumn I will present them all of the scenic routes here on this site, showing them in my own way with my own photos and information along the routes. These are the 10 routes:
- VADRESFLYE
- RONDANE
- LOFOTEN
- VESTERÅLEN – ANDØYA
- SENJA
- HELGELANDKYSTEN
- ATLANTERHAVSVEGEN
- TROLLSTIGEN – GEIRANGER
- GAMLE STRYNEFJELLSVEGEN
- AURLANDSVEGEN
To give you an impression of the beautiful places I have visited, I will present some photos of five of the scenic route here.

VALDRESFLYE
Scenic Route – VALDRESFLYE – along FV51 from Beitostølen to Hindsæter – over a mountain plateau which has the highest point at 1389 masl. Great view towards many of the mountain peaks of Jotunheimen National Park.
RONDANE
Scenic Route RONDANE – along FV27 from Venabergfjellet to Folldal – with a detour to Sollia. Beautiful scenery driving through the long valley of Atndalen, with an amazing view of the mountain tops of Rondane from the Sohlbergplassen viewpoint.
LOFOTEN
So many fascinating jagged mountains, special fishing villages and beautiful beaches – here are just a selection. Beautiful fishing villages like : Reine, Hamnøy, Å, Nusfjord, Henningsvær, – great view from hiking destinations like Reinebringen and Ryten – and one of the beautiful beaches: Hovlandstranda
HELGELAND
The coast of HELGELAND – is the longest of the 18 Norwegian Scenic Routes. The route includes six ferry trips and one of them is crossing the polar circle. The weather conditions were not so good, mostly rain and fog as we travelled along the coast. The famous mountains chain The Seven Sisters were covered in a layer of mist. Nevertheless – we got a good impression of the fascinating coastal landscape, especially of two of the routes unique natural phenomena.; Saltstraumen – the world’s largest tidal maelstrom and Svartisen – Norway’s second-largest glacier.
ATLANTERHAVSVEGEN
– a unique driving experience. The road curves elegantly from islet to islet over seven bridges.
