An overview over National Parks, Game Reserves, Nature Conservancies and private Game Reserveres we have visited. These descriptions include both facts, maps and my own experiences – and all pictures used are from our own safari tours in the relevant park.
I have made links to descriptions of game reserves already written in our round trips. Game reserves that we have visited several times, have their own pages with more comprehensive information and with pictures from different trips.

LIMPOPO/MPUMALANGA PROVINCES:

  • KRUGER NATIONAL PARK
    It is one of the largest game reserves in Africa. It covers an area of nearly 20.000 km2.
  • PARSONS HILLTOP SAFARI CAMP
    – a private camp located in the Balule Nature Reserve within the Greater Kruger area.
  • KARONGWE GAME RESERVE
    – a private game reserve in Limpopo – only a 45 min drive from the Kruger National Park

NORTH WEST PROVINCE:

  • PILANESBERG
    It is the fourth largest game reserve in South Africa – with an area of 550 km2.

KWAZULU NATAL PROVINCE:

  • HLUHLUWE IMFOLOZY GAME RESERVE
    Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve is a Big5 Game Park in the province of KwaZulu Natal and the oldest proclaimed reserve in Africa. The link is for our first visit in 2008.

  • ISIMANGALISO WETLAND PARK
    It is considered South Africa’s third-largest park and extends from Mapelane (Cape St. Lucia) in the South, to Kozi Bay Nature Reserve in the North.

    Mkuze Game Reserve is also included in Isimangaliso Wetlandpark, a northwestern section. Mkuze Game Reserve is a 40 000 hectare reserve game reserve situated in northern Zululand. It is now possible to spot all the big 5 in MKUZE!

EASTERN CAPE PROVINCE:

  • ADDO ELEPHANT NATIONAL PARK
    – the third biggest game reserve in South Africa and is home to one of the
    densest African Elephant populations on earth.

WESTERN CAPE PROVINCE:

  • Table Mountain National Park
    At the south-western tip of South Africa, in the beautiful city of Cape Town – the Table Mountain National Park encompasses the incredibly scenic Peninsula mountain chain stretching from Signal Hill in the north – to Cape Point in the south, a distance of approximately 60 km. Section as:
    • Table Mountain,
    • The Pinguin Colony at Boulders Beach, Simons Town
    • Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point
