– Enthusiastic traveller – with a passion for wildlife
My name is Birgitte and I live in Stavanger, on the southwest coast of Norway. I have always loved traveling and ever since I got an old Miranda camera from my dad at age 15, I have taken many photos – especially on my trips.
As a teenager my first trips was to London with my family, later on – to other cities in Europe. As a student I went interrail in different countries in Europe (Eurail) for 4 summers.
The past 20 years I have travelled not only in Europe, but several times in Australia, USA, Asia and Africa. BIG5TRAVEL will reflect my traveling all the big continents.
The Big Five is usually something one thinks of in connection with safari in Africa. And it is really my affection for Africa and African wildlife that is the main reason for the name.
The term “the big five” comes from the game hunting industry and described the five most dangerous animals to hunt. Now it is fortunately just a “camera-hunt” to encounter these animals on a safari; lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and African buffalo.
Going on safari makes me forget time and place, it gives me a special feeling that keeps me coming back to Africa again and again!
It is mostly in the summer and winter holidays I have had the opportunity to travel abroad, but I have had some longer trips.
- 2 world tours, 2000: 4 months with a friend,
2014: 2 1/2 months with my daughter (then 12 years) - 2006 / 2007: two months roundtrip in Australia with my family; mother, stepfather and daughter (then 4 years),
- 2007 / 2008: 2 1/2 months roundtrip in South Africa with family
- Several 1 months trips in USA (road trips, cities and national parks) in the years: 2003, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012 , 2016 and 2018.
I have visited 36 of the 51 states.
And several trips in Norway of course – and more to come.
I have travelled both with friends and family, and from 2002 when I became a mother, my daughter has always been with me. She is well travelled at the age of 17.
I love to plan my own trip with both flights, accommodation and car rental. All my roundtrips I have planned myself.
I love to explore nature, visit national parks with different landscapes and fascinating wildlife. But also travel in general, visit cities and historical places.
I have many photos from my trips and also diaries from most of them. The best of my photos and stories from these trips I want to share with you!
And in time – new trips to come. There will be new stories to tell, new photos to share.

I will start with the tour to South Africa in 2008 which was the first long trip to South Africa – after a few days visit in 2000 and my first visit in 1993. After this I have been to South Africa almost every year . A lovely country with beautiful nature and fascinating wildlife – absolutely one of my favorites.
I will also present one of my round trips in USA which include both visits to monuments, lovely landscapes, national parks, cities and Hawaii!
